Ankur Gujarati Samaj elected new Board of Trustees and Operating Committee members for
2008. Ankur is a non-profit organization, which aims to serve the Gujarati, and Hindu community
living in Cincinnati area. Membership is open to everyone, regardless of religion or philosophy.
Ankur welcomes to all in celebration of community events.
The election was recently held during the general body meeting at Ankur’s hall in Blue Ash.
Members chose a new Operating Committee and new Board of Trustees. It was an unusual
election, since all five Board of Trustee positions were vacant, and were filled by individuals who
had never been trustees before. The new Trustees, elected to 5-year terms, are Mr. Jagdish
Mistry, Mr. Rajendra Mistry, Mr. Pankaj Patel, Mr. Kishor Desai, and Mrs. Dorothy Joshi. The
duties of the Board include long-term planning and overall work involved with activities and
responsibilities of Ankur.
The Operating Committee, which handles the day-to-day management of Ankur, elected 3 new
officers: Mr. Girish Amin, Mrs. Jyoti Parikh, and Mr. Chandu Budev, who join re-elected officers
Mrs. Jyoti Mehta, Mr. Kishor Mehta and Mr. Raj Agarwal. These members will each serve a
one-year term of office. The Operating Committee has room for up to 10 positions, so there are
openings available for additional volunteers. (See Ankur’s Constitution for rules, on our website:

The outgoing Trustees met with the incoming Trustees and transferred the financial documents,
maintenance information and other records to the new team. The new Trustees and the new
Operating Committee also met and planned out various activities for 2008. These will be published
in the monthly newsletter and on Ankur’s website. Both committees (BOT and OC) also
identified five goals for 2008 listed below will be achieved with help from members of the Ankur
community:
1. Increase Ankur Community Participation by 20%. Get Community involved into Ankur
Events
2. Increase Ankur participation in external charitable events
3. Have and Seamless working between OC, BOT, and members of Ankur community
4. Setup Ankur for hosting FOGANA by 2010
5. Make Ankur “Fun” place to be!
This new administration recognizes that the Ankur organization evolved over the years as our
community and their needs grew with time. We are proud to say that Ankur’s balance sheet is
very healthy, Ankur facility is well maintained, Diwali and Navaratri programs successfully run in
past collaborations with HSGC, and the number of classes and clubs are being run on regular
basis at Ankur. We continue to support these activities and hope to add few more as we move
forward. We are hoping that members of the Ankur community are as excited as we are and
bring new projects to us that we can support, and fund.
Community work is all about giving and what will be a better way than serving Ankur and community
at large from greater Cincinnati. Please read on the following quotation from Norman
MacEwan and take a moment to reflect on it.
“ We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”

Let's work TOGETHER for a great year?!
